Policies & Rules

Cancellations and Transfers

All classes must be paid in full before attendance. Once classes have started, cancellations and refunds are not permitted. However, requests for transfers may be considered. Transfers will be subject to availability and must be completed within the first two weeks of the course.

2

Prorating

For students joining a class after the 6th week, we offer prorated tuition fees based on the remaining weeks of the course. Additionally, a one-time supplies fee will be added to cover any necessary materials.

3

Minimum Class Size

A minimum of three students is required to run each class/camp. Exceptions to the minimum class/camp size requirement can be considered upon further discussion between the parent and instructor.

4

Drop-Off Program

Drop-offs are welcome at no additional cost for students who have back-to-back classes or are participating in camps. Parents or guardians are encouraged to inform the instructors in advance to ensure a smooth transition between classes.

5

Late Pick-Up

Classes at JKW run in back to back sessions. As such, it is important for parents to pick their students up on time each day. Parents or guardians who arrive late to pick up their child after a class or session will incur an additional fee. We provide a 5-minute grace period for late pick-ups. However, for every minute beyond the grace period, there will be a charge of $2.00 unless informed of an emergency situation.

6

Suggested Grade Levels

We provide suggested grade levels for our classes to assist with age appropriateness and curriculum alignment. However, exceptions can be made to accommodate siblings or students with varying skill levels.

7

Student-to-Teacher Ratio

To ensure individualized attention and support, our classes maintain a typical student-to-teacher ratio ranging from 8 to 12 students per instructor. In the event that a program reaches 10 students, we take proactive measures to maintain the quality of instruction. At that point, we assign an assistant to the instructor, ensuring that all students continue to receive the necessary guidance and engagement. This additional support helps us uphold our commitment to personalized education and a high-quality learning experience for every student. We continuously evaluate and adjust our class sizes to strike the right balance between individual attention and group dynamics, allowing each student to thrive academically and creatively.

8

Parental Observation in Classes

While parents are generally not permitted to remain in the class, we do utilize Google Classroom which enables parents to see what their student is learning on each and every day of instruction. In some cases, exceptions may be granted, allowing parents to sit-in on courses, however there are no guarantees. Please discuss your request with the instructor in advance. We will carefully consider each case to ensure an optimal learning environment for all students.

9

Grading and Assessment

We provide grades for core classes only. These core classes follow a structured curriculum and assessment system. For all other courses, known as elective classes, we prioritize project-based learning and skill development over traditional grading. It is important to note that parents may choose to provide their own grading system or assessments for these elective classes if they wish. We value parental involvement and encourage open communication regarding the progress and performance of students in all classes.

10

Tutoring Completion in the Same Year

All tutoring sessions must be completed within the same calendar year they are initiated. This policy ensures that students receive timely support and helps maintain consistency in their learning progress.

11

Allergies and Snacks

Snacks are welcome, but it is important to maintain a nut-free environment to ensure the safety of all students. Parents or guardians should ensure that snacks brought to the center do not contain nuts or nut products. It is also recommended to label snack’s with the student’s name to avoid confusion.

12

Student Illness

If a student is feeling unwell or showing symptoms of illness, we kindly request that they do not attend classes to prevent the spread of germs and ensure the well-being of all students. Please notify us as soon as possible if your child will be absent due to illness. We will work with you to find suitable alternatives or reschedule missed sessions.

Student Expected Behavior

At JKW Innovations, our goal is to foster a learning community where everyone teaches, models, and displays respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors. Our teachers understand that every student is unique and we strive to create a personalized learning environment that caters not only to their academic needs, but also fosters a comforting and supportive environment within the classroom. Our teachers set clear expectations for behavior that ensure a classroom where everyone can learn and interact positively. Those expectations are as follows:

Student Conduct Expectations

Be Respectful.

⧫  We respect everyone's contributions, opinions, and efforts

⧫  We are positive and encouraging to others

⧫  We motivate everyone to do their personal best

⧫  We are friendly to one another

⧫  We help others when we can

⧫  We keep our classroom and supplies clean

⧫  We celebrate each other's successes and are good sports

Be Responsible.

⧫  We hold ourselves and others accountable

⧫  We ask for help when needed

⧫  We use appropriate language

⧫  We complete all assigned work

⧫  We follow all, not some, directions

⧫  We dress, speak, and act appropriately

⧫  We do not cheat or plagiarize

Be Safe.

⧫  We report any danger to instructors

⧫  We never leave the campus without a parent

⧫  We follow class rules when using the internet and other technology

If a student is having difficulty meeting these expectations and their behavior is consistently disruptive, affecting the learning environment, we will follow our discipline policy.

14

Discipline Policy

We prioritize the development of core character qualities such as respect, kindness, and integrity in all of our classes. We believe in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. In the event that a student is not demonstrating these qualities, the following steps will be taken:

  1. Step 1: Verbal Warning - The instructor will give a verbal warning to the student, clearly communicating the expected behavior and consequences should the behavior continue.

  2. Step 2: Written Warning to Parent - If the inappropriate behavior persists, a written warning will be issued to the parent about the student. This warning will outline the specific behaviors that need to be addressed and the potential consequences if they continue.

  3. Step 3: Parent/Guardian Meeting - If the student’s behavior does not improve, a meeting will be scheduled with the student’s parent or guardian. During this meeting, the concerns will be discussed and a plan of action will be agreed upon to address the behavior.

  4. Step 4: Suspension - If the behavior still does not improve, the student may be placed on a temporary probation from classes until the instructor says otherwise.

  5. Termination of Enrollment -  In extreme cases where the student’s behavior continues to disrupt the learning environment or poses a safety risk, enrollment may be terminated. Upon termination, the student will no longer be able to participate in JKW programs, and no refund will be provided.

At all levels of disciplinary action, the student’s parent/guardian will be notified of the inappropriate behavior and disciplinary actions that will be implemented.

It's important for parents to be aware of these policies and to discuss them with their children so that everyone understands what is expected of them in terms of appropriate behavior and consequences for misconduct. At JKW, we believe in working together with parents to ensure that all students are held to high standards of behavior. We want to provide you with information on our policies and procedures for addressing student misconduct, while emphasizing our belief that parents have the only say in matters concerning their children. JKW values the partnership between parents in ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
